Ekoru: industrialising the construction sector

SMART BUILDING

Ekoru is a benchmark in sustainable construction. With over 60 employees and 56,000 m² of production space, Ekoru produces over 300,000 m³ per year of autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) blocks—known as GASBETON®—an innovative, strong and insulating material.

Thanks to these aerated concrete blocks and specially developed mortars, high efficiency buildings are easier and more economical to construct. Compared to other systems that require many layers and different materials, GASBETON® enables single-layer walls that are:

• Excellent insulators for both summer and winter—reducing energy bills;

• Fire resistant, solid, and safe—ensuring peace of mind;

• Breathable and healthy—promoting interior wellbeing;

• Eco friendly and made from natural materials—respecting the environment.

The Gasbeton Production Process

The autoclaving process lasts around 6 hours, during which the moulded blocks are steam-cured at about 200°C and 12 bar pressure. This forms hydrated calcium silicate (tobermorite), a naturally occurring stone recreated artificially—giving Gasbeton its unique strength and lightness.

Industrialising the Building Process

Thanks to a digital prefabrication process for Gasbeton components, Ekoru aims to revolutionise construction. In fact, Ekoru stands out in its aim to industrialise the production of partition walls using automated in-factory systems, minimising on-site operations.

The Three-Step Production Process

  1. BIM Design (Building Information Modeling):

    • Digital modelling of the building to integrate architectural, structural, service and energy aspects.

    • Each element is coded to guide all subsequent stages.

  2. Automated Assembly in Factory:

    • Production of engineered walls with geometric detail and mounting inserts.

    • Creation of dimensional production sheets with geometric and technical specifications.

  3. Transport and on Site Installation:

    • Prefabricated walls—already pre-finished with windows, electrical and plumbing systems—are transported and installed on-site.

    • Bespoke procedures ensure performance control for each building.

Industry 4.0 and Advanced Automation

Thanks to the “Innovative Machinery” grant, Ekoru has implemented a highly automated Industry 4.0 plant capable of transforming digital BIM designs into ready to install physical products. This approach allows:

• Faster construction times.

• Maximum precision and quality.

• Fewer on-site errors.

• Improved environmental sustainability.
